We founded Extang in 1982 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a belief that truck owners deserved better protection for their cargo. Our founder Don Coon set out to engineer tonneau covers that outperformed anything on the market — combining weather-tight seals with the durability to handle years of hard use. From day one, we made a commitment to American craftsmanship that has defined every cover we have built since.
Through the 1990s and 2000s, Extang became a driving force in tonneau cover innovation. We developed the EZ-Lock clamp system — a no-drill installation method that made installing a premium cover accessible to any truck owner with basic tools. Our Trifecta soft folding cover and Solid Fold hard aluminum cover became category benchmarks, recognized for their build quality and weatherproofing performance. We developed quad-seal technology to address the leaking problems that plagued competing covers, placing seals on all four sides of the bed opening for true weather protection.
